There is an excuse for myself!

"Pregnancy brain" is real, study says
Tue, Feb 5, 2008 (HealthDay)

A woman's memory can be impaired for at least a year after giving birth, says an Australian study in the Journal of Clinical and Experimental Neuropsychology. But the impact is minimal and mainly affects new or demanding memory tasks, said the researchers, who analyzed the findings of 14 international studies that included a total of more than 1,000 women."The memory deficits many women experience during and after pregnancy are pretty much like the modest deficits you'd find when comparing healthy 20-year-olds with healthy 60-year-olds," said Julie Henry, a psychology researcher at the University of New South Wales. It's unclear why a woman might experience memory problems at such a crucial time in her life, Agence France-Presse reported. "Although we have no experimental evidence for it, our suspicion is that lifestyle factors are relevant," Henry said. "In pregnancy your normal routines are disrupted and you can suffer sleep deprivation after the birth . . . We know from other research that either of those things can affect cognitive performance."

I had been getting extremely concerned. I have been in YW for awhile now, and as I'm teaching my lessons, God knows what comes out of my mouth because every ounce of intelligence has left my brain and I am grasping for words, any words. I have truly been horrified with myself. I thought for sure that I was going to get released because the YW president would run to the bishop begging that they can't let this crazy girl teach the youth of the ward anymore. I'm so glad to know that I'm not getting permanently dumber, prematurely losing my memory, and better yet there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Yet another thing to kill brain cells. I am such a flake anyway and have the hardest time even finding words when I talk. And yet another reason for me to only have two children!

I can totally relate. The worse though is that you don't get back your old brain after you give birth. I still have pregnancy brain and Maddie is over 2 years old! The other day I couldn't for the life of me remember the word for rain! Seriously. It's so frustrating when the word is on the tip of your tongue and you can't say it. I wish guys got pregnancy brain too.
